In a conversation with fitness influencer Bradley Martyn on his YouTube channel, Devin Haney revealed that he had been in talks with Reebok for a shoe deal, describing it as a "big deal.” One of the head guys at Reebok had expressed interest in stepping in the ring and sparring with Haney.

However, things took a dramatic turn when the sparring session began. Haney shared that the Reebok executive had been "talking so much shit ... for months" and that he was "immature" at the time, leading him to throw a punch that ended up breaking the executive's nose.

"The first punch I threw, I broke his nose," Haney said. "Like, bro, his nose was crooked. It was bad, like blood everywhere. He had to fly back on the airplane; it was bad, bro.”

The incident ultimately resulted in Reebok pulling out of the deal with Haney, leaving Haney to regret his actions. "It fucked up my deal," he said. "Dude stopped answering the phone. It just went bad, bro.

Despite the setback, Haney has continued to have a successful career in boxing, with a record of 26-0 and numerous accolades under his belt, most notably currently reigning as the undisputed lightweight champion. However, the story of how Haney broke a Reebok executive's nose will go down in the history of boxing lore as a cautionary tale for regular civilians who might be tempted to request sparring sessions with professional boxers.

As Haney himself admitted, "Looking back at it, it was bad. He was talking shit, but he was talking shit like jokingly. I thought he was serious; it was just bad."

Devin Haney will defend his four lightweight titles against former champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20, 2023, at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
