David Benavidez Dominates David Morell Jr. in Unanimous Decision Win, Declares 'This is Monster's World'

Watch fight highlights of David Benavidez's dominant 12-round unanimous decision win over fellow light heavyweight David Morell Jr. on Saturday night in front of a vibrant crowd at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

During the ring walks, Benavidez, nicknamed "The Mexican Monster" by Mike Tyson, made his way to the ring with the sounds of Mexican music, wearing red and black camouflage. As he walked, the crowd and betting favorite Benavidez extended his glove to touch the fans, pausing at the steps of the ring before entering to acknowledge the crowd’s applause.

In Round 2, Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs), showcasing his 29-fight experience, moved Morrell's (11-1, 9 KOs) left guard aside and smashed him with a flush right hook, drawing cheers from the crowd.

In Round 4, the skillful Cuban Morrell stood his ground. As Benavidez stalked and pressed him against the ropes, Morrell weathered the storm and buckled Benavidez's legs with a short right hook counter, leaving the pro-Benavidez crowd in shock.

Benavidez took control in the middle rounds as the fight progressed, dominating exchanges with relentless inside work and crisp combinations, forcing Morrell to fight on the back foot. Benavidez's control was punctuated with a lethal left uppercut that landed flush on Morell's face in Round 6.

Benavidez and Morrell embraced briefly after the final bell, capping off an intense fight buildup filled with bad blood. Their rivalry hit a boiling point when Benavidez shoved Morrell during a heated media workout, prompting Morrell to retaliate by hurling his championship belt at him.

When the scorecards were announced, it was a dominant victory for Benavidez, 115-111, 115-111, and 118-108 on the judge's scorecards. With the win, Benavidez retained his WBC interim light heavyweight title and claimed Morrell’s WBA “regular” light heavyweight belt.

During the post-fight interview, combat sports analyst Brian Campbell asked Benavidez about Morrell's pre-fight comment that he didn't believe in monsters. In response, Benavidez said, "He knows whose world this is—this is Monstruo's world." - 🥊
